Now that The Mayweather vs McGregor hangover is over, UFC 215 is this Saturday night. Although Sunday saw a minor card in the form of UFC Fight Night Rotterdam, this is the first major event since “The Money Fight”. Although it may not be a big one among MMA casuals, this is a stacked card worth plenty of attention.
The event is headlined by The UFC Flyweight Champ Mighty Mouse Johnson. The champ will be taking on top five contender, Ray Borg. Mighty Mouse will look to defend his title for the 11th time and break Anderson Silva’s UFC record for most consecutive title defenses. Borg will look to play the spoiler on Saturday night and dethrone the only man to ever hold the 125 pound title.
The co-main event will be a rematch between Women’s Bantamweight Champion, Amanda Nunes as she takes on number one contender Valentina Shevchenko. In their first fight, which was pre-title reign, Nunez won the first two rounds and the third was all Valentina. Nunez won via decision. Since then, neither fighter has lost a fight. This match up was set to take place in July during International Fight Week, but Nunez pulled out of the fight at the last minute citing sinus problems.
Elsewhere, Neil Magney takes on former UFC Lightweight Champion, Rafael Dos Anjos. Also Gilbert Melendez returns after a year plus lay off. The former Strikeforce Lightweight Champ will try his hand at featherweight against an always game, Jeremy Stephens. Melendez was on a three fight losing streak, before a year long suspension for a banned substance.
