Late last Friday night, Dana White released the highly sought after sparring footage between Conor McGregor and Paulie Malignaggi. Today, The Herd with Colin Cowherd featured MMA legend Randy Couture discussing the sparring footage and the August 26th fight between Conor and Floyd Mayweather.
Couture has one of the most storied careers in MMA and UFC history. The Washington state native is a former multiple time world champion in the Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight divisions. He is now working with Bellator MMA and has been teasing a possible comeback to fight Fedor, in a fight that should have happened 15 years ago.
Interestingly, Couture took on the pro wrestling and pro boxing cross over Tony Halme in his promotional debut at UFC 13. Couture also fought and beat former World Boxing Champion James Tony, shortly before his retirement from the octagon. Couture is no stranger to the freak show fights, so his opinion is very valuable here.
Randy referred to the footage in question as a “Publicity Stunt” and was questioning why referee Joe Cortez was even present for the session. As far as the actual fight, “The Natural” believes that McGregor has about a ten percent chance of winning against Floyd, but concedes it has the potential to be a boring fight.
The 54 year old goes on to discuss a variety of topics surrounding the super fight, including the dilemma of MMA stars not being paid anywhere near the amount of boxers money make. Check out the full video with Couture above. Also check out the sparring footage at the link below.
