UFC: Belfort vs. Gastelum Main Card Highlights

In the Main-Event Kelvin Gastelum took little time to prove to the world that his time is now. In a fight that took place on the feet, Gastelum was able to get the better of Belfort on multiple occasions. Belfort was dropped twice in the first round, and the fight was stopped on the second occasion. After the fight, Kelvin called for a fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 212. Vitor Belfort has stated that he has one fight left on his contract and then he is likely to retire.

Shogun surprised many fans with his dominant performance against Gian Villante. Shogun looked much better than he has in a while. Over the duration of 11 minutes, Shogun was almost able to double his opponent in significant strikes. On 2 occasions, Shogun was even able to take the wrestler Villante down. Shogun was able to get the stoppage victory during the first minute of the third round.

Edson Barboza and Beneil Dariush gave fans a back and forth striking battle. Beneil seemed to be getting the better of Barboza on most of the exchanges. With one minute left in the second round, it seemed that Dariush was up 2 rounds. Out of nowhere, Barboza landed with a night ending flying knee. It was arguably the highlight of the night. With that win, Barboza deserves a crack at the Top 5 once again.

To open up the Main-Card, Alex Oliveira and Tim Means looked to settle their beef from a few months prior. In their first fight, Means landed a few knees while Oliveira was considered a downed opponent. The fight was called a No-Contest. In their rematch, Means was listed as a favorite on the betting line. It looked that way, as Means was able to get the better of Oliveira on the feet in the first round. Oliveira continuously looked to bring the fight to the ground, as he believed that is where he could win. Halfway through the second round, Oliveira was able to sink in a Rear-Naked choke and get the win. This is turning out to quite the win streak by Alex Oliveira as of late.

50 G’s Baby

Kelvin Gastelum, Edson Barboza, Michel Prazeres and Paulo Henrique Costa all earned Performance of the Night bonuses. There was no Fight of the Night bonus awarded. Surprisingly, all but Barboza were able to finish their opponents in the first round. Edson found the finish in the 2nd round.

Mayweather vs. McGregor Train Rides On

After what has felt like forever of will this fight happen or not, Flo Combat has reported that the bout is scheduled to happen at T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas on June 10th. The fight will occur under boxing rules, and Mayweather is currently a giant favorite over the UFC champion. If this fight does occur, it can result in Connor not returning to the UFC until August at the earliest.

Anderson Silva Wants on UFC 212

UFC 212 will be heading to Rio Brazil on June 3rd. The card is currently headlined by Jose Aldo defending his Featherweight title against Max Holloway. Anderson Silva recently stated on his Instagram account that he would like to have a rematch with either Nick Diaz or Michael Bisping and that he wanted to fight on the 212 card. The Diaz fight is more likely, as Bisping is currently scheduled to defend his title against George St-Pierre.

Paige VanZant leaves Team Alpha Male

Recently on his podcast, Chael Sonnen told the world that Paige recently made the move to Oregon to join his gym. PVZ has won 1 out of her last 3, but both of those losses coming to superior grapplers. It is an odd change, as TAM is known for their wrestlers. It is also rumored that the change is because of a few failed relationships with fellow teammates at the gym. On the plus side, #1 Women’s Featherweight Cris Cyborg currently trains alongside Chael, and I’m sure she has lots to offer the young Strawweight.
