Hello fight fans, happy hump day! It’s been an intense forty eight hours in the UFC, with a lot of big news being announced. So with no delay, lets get right down to it!
Perhaps the biggest news this week is that The UFC has officially announced Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker will face off in the UFC 213 co-main event. The fight will be for the interim middleweight title, as Michael Bisping’s knee is currently too banged up to defend his belt.
Romero and Whittaker are both on impressive win streaks and ranked number one and three respectfully. Romero most recently knocked out Chris Weidman and Whittaker knocked out Jacare Souza in April.
The original plan was for Georges St Pierre to return to the UFC and challenge Bisping for the title, but GSP will not be ready to fight until October. It now seems that The Canadian superstar will instead return for a fight at welterweight, perhaps against the winner of the Maia VS Woodley title fight.
Super Fight Time?
With Cody Garbrandt’s neck still injured, The UFC is trying to put together a mega fight between TJ Dillashaw and Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson. Dillashaw was scheduled to fight against Garbrandt for the bantamweight title at UFC 213 as the main event. That spot has since been filled by Women’s Bantamweight Champion Amanda Nunes’ rematch against Valentina Shevchenko.
The fight between Johnson and Garbrandt would be a Flyweight Championship title fight. If “Mighty Mouse” was to be successful, he would break Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive title defenses. Both Silva and Johnson both are sitting at ten defenses. This would be a legit super fight, with both coming into the fight in their prime. Brett Okamoto tweeted the news, check it out below.
Dana White also tells me Cody Garbrandt is officially off UFC 213 and that plan is to have TJ Dillashaw fight Demetrious Johnson in August.

Johnson however, does not seem too keen on the idea. He believes his next defense will be against Ray Borg.
