With Robbie Lawler ruling himself out of a mouth-watering clash with Donald Cerrone at UFC 205, “Cowboy” is was without an opponent, until now.

Fresh off his emphatic win over Johny Hendricks at UFC 200, The Ultimate Fighter season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum has agreed to step in and fight Cerrone this November in Madison Square Garden.

According to MMAjunkie, Gastelum and Cerrone have verbally agreed to fight with contract negotiations from the Gastelum camp to be ironed out.

Cerrone has won three straight since making the jump to welterweight, with wins over Alex Oliveria, Patrick Côté, and most recently, Rick Story. Cerrone was riding an 8-fight win streak leading to his light title fight against Rafael dos Anjos, but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.

A win over Gastelum will put Cerrone right into title contention at 170 pounds. A win for Gastelum will also propel him towards a rematch against current champion Tyron Woodley, after losing to him via split-decision last year.

UFC officials are yet to announce the bout.

UFC 205 takes place November 12th at Madison Square Garden Arena in New York City, New York.
