On Saturday night in the heart of Brazil, Colby Covington put the welterweight division on notice. After a rocky first two minutes, “Chaos” picked apart the top ranked Demian Maia en route to a unanimous decision victory. The score cards reflected the one sided beat down as one judge had it 30 to 26. This was the 29 year old’s biggest win and his fifth in a row.

After the fight, Colby retaliated against the wild and threatening crowd by calling them “Filthy Animals” and referring to the country of Brazil as a “Dump”. After trashing the country and it’s people, he also called out current champ Tyron Woodley. As much as this big win did for his stock, his post fight interview with DC really put this kid’s name in everyone’s mouth. Love him or hate him, everyone now knows who Colby “Chaos” Covington is.

Covington Lets DC And The Brazilian Crowd Know How He Really Feels

In recent days, Woodley has stated that he will not fight Covington next and will instead fight the winner of this Saturday night’s main event between Middleweight Champion Michael Bisping and the returning Canadian superstar, Georges St Pierre. I had a chance to catch up with Colby today and I asked his opinion of Woodley’s statement.

“Tyron Woodley is a joke, He’s always running from the challenge for an easier fight. It’s not gonna happen, cause Robert Whittaker is getting the winner of that fight.”

Woodley and Covington are no strangers to each other. They have trained together in the past and Colby seems to feel he has the key elements to dethrone the champ.

“I feel I match up very well with woodley. he wouldn’t be able to handle my pace and he would break in that octagon.”

In case Tyron refuses to defend his belt against Colby, their is only one other fight that he is interested in.

“The Robbie Lawler vs Rafael dos Anjos winner”

What about fighting the winner of this weekends welterweight scrap between Stephen Thompson and Jorge Masvidal?

“No because Jorge masvidal is my boy and wonder boy is aged and already lost twice for the belt. I’m clearly next in line.”

If there was ever a time to strike while the iron is hot in the welterweight division, it’s now. This kid is on fire in and out of the octagon and is ready for the next level. He is now ranked number three in The UFC Official Welterweight rankings. Check out his latest Facebook post below.
