Although most casual fight fans watch some of the major UFC pay per view and FOX shows and the occasional Bellator event on SPIKE, there is a whole other world of fighters out there. These are young scrappers fighting their way towards the big time, ‘chasing the dream’.
Ladies and Gentlemen, Fighting out of the blue corner, weighing in at one hundred and forty-five pounds and fighting out of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, he is…….. Sheymon da Silva Moraes
Sheymon is a Featherweight prospect currently competing in The World Series Of Fighting. He is a dynamic Muay Thai striker and with a professional record of nine wins and one loss. Moraes turned pro back in 2012 and has finished five of his nine wins with strikes. About how he got started in MMA Sheymon said:
“The Nogueria Brothers are the ones who introduced me to MMA. Their gym is where it all started for me. I always give thanks to them for the help they’ve given me. My relationship with them is like family, I’m like a nephew.”
You may remember Sheymon as the striking coach on The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2 for team Nogueira.
“Coaching on the Ultimate Fighter Brazil was a priceless experience for me. I was only 21 years old and the world got to see me coach many talented fighters and I met so many great people.”
Moraes also has done extensive training is Thailand with former UFC star Roger Huerta
“Training with Roger Huerta was very helpful. I trained with him in Thailand and he was very nice to me, fun to train with and a good guy. Thailand was amazing. I love to fight Muay Thai….this is my background. It helped me with my training and gave me a lot of experience that I still use today. My striking experience comes from my training in Thailand and from my coaches.”
As far as goals the young man has a few.
“Right now my immediate goals are to continue to train hard and be a better fighter than yesterday. I’ve always strived to be a champion and that is the same goal I have today.
Does he have a dream fight?
“My dream fight….I don’t know – I want to fight with the best. I want to be the best fighter on planet earth.”
Are his sights set only set on the world famous Octagon?
“The UFC is a great organisation, and I would love to step in their octagon one day, But I will fight where I can provide the best life for myself and my family.”
His regular training partners include a who’s who of MMA legends and current stars.
“I train with people close to me. Fabio, Vitor, Mario, Chad, Guilherme and sometimes with Anderson and Lyoto Machida.”
While not training or fighting what does he enjoy in life?
“Besides fighting, I love spending time with my family. I also enjoy BBQing, relaxing on the beach, watching the sunset, and hanging out with my friends.”
Be on the look out for Sheymon Moraes, he is a fight or two away from making a huge impact in the fight game. At 25 years old the sky is the limit for this Brazilian prospect who has the goods to make a run at any major title in the not distant future. He truly is “Chasing The Dream”.
