English boxer Amir Khan has suggested that a move to MMA may be on the horizon and he wants to fight Conor McGregor in a superfight. Earlier this year McGregor was linked to a fight with Floyd Mayweather, an opponent Khan has been screaming for for some time now but it appears as though the Bolton native has realised who the real money fight is, or at least the money fight that may be available.
Khan who most recently lost to Canelo Alvarez, is looking for big fights and with the reluctance of Mayweather to engage in any negotiations and with Pacquiao reluctant to fight a former training partner, Khan is running out of viable options in boxing. There are fights there for him however, including fellow Brit Kell Brook, who has been calling Khan out. Khan feels that Brook is not a big enough name for him however.
As for McGregor, the ‘Notorious' UFC star is clearly open to any fight that will sell PPV's and a superfight between boxer and MMA fighter would certainly do that. Regardless of what discipline the fight takes place in McGregor is always open to at least building the hype around it.
McGregor has other things to focus on right now though, as he prepares to rematch Nate Diaz on August 20th. The fight which will headline UFC 202 in the T-Mobile Arena is trending towards being the biggest fight in the promotions history. Should McGregor win the bout, Khan will add to a list of fighters who would love to be next in line for the ‘Notorious'.
The big stumbling block surrounding the Mayweather fight was McGregor's contract with the UFC but Dana White did mention that he would be happy to invite Mayweather into the UFC. Will he extend the same offer to Khan. Only time will tell. This is one to keep an eye on!
