After the first week of 2018 we have not seen any high profile fights yet, but we have seen some big news and announcements in the world of MMA. From Cyborg to Jimmie and Tony to Tyron, a lot has happened this week. So let's jump right into the world of Twitter and run down what's been happening.
Amanda VS Cyborg Next At 145?
After Dana White announced this week that Cyborg's next fight would be against Amanda Nunes, Cyborg had some other ideas about who she should fight. the Brazilian WMMA legend said:
“If Megan Anderson is not ready to fight, then the next available contender Pam Sorenson deserves the opportunity. I can continue giving fans superfights, however in order for this division to grow it is my responsibility to respect the work of all the women fighting at 145lbs and give the top girls a chance at the title once they have earned it. If Amanda Nunes truly wants an opportunity at the 145 lbs belt, a win against any ranked contender in that division would help establish her back in a weight class she left before fighting me.”

In response, on Friday night Amanda Nunes had the following to say via twitter:
First of all, I have nothing personal against @criscyborg I do believe it is the fight that everyone wants to see and a fight where we can both leave our marks on this sport.

This fight is a double edge sword for the MMA powerhouse known as The UFC. On one hand, a 145 pound title fight between the two Brazilian WMMA standouts would be the biggest women's
UFC MMA fight ever. Historically, champion vs champion fights are always must see TV. In “The Money Fight era” there is not a bigger WMMA fight than Cris vs Amanda.
On the other hand, if the women's featherweight division is ever going to be taken serious, it will have to establish an actual division with rankings and challengers that actually compete at a hundred and forty five pounds. In the past year, the only fighters to receive title shots have all been 135 pound fighters beefing up to take on a challenge.
Jimmie Rivera Still Chasing Big Fights
It seems that Jimmie Rivera (Who Happens To Be 21-1 & 5-0 in UFC) is not the guy most bantamweights wants to fight these days. He had his most recent scheduled fights, first against Dominick Cruz and then against John Lineker both at UFC 219 canceled due to opponent injuries. A last minute replacement fight against Marlon Moraes could not be agreed upon, so Rivera did not compete.
At this point, Jimmie has to resort to twitter to call out other top fighters in the division. He does not seem to be a popular choice for fellow 135 pounders to choose to step up and fight.
Towards former champ Cody Garbrandt, Jimmie tweeted the following message:

Jimmie is also offering to fight Raphael Assuncao.
What are you talking about? Every time you’re mentioned, the Ufc says you’re hurt. #getbettersoon

Either The UFC need to give this guy a title fight next or at least a guaranteed title eliminator. Whichever is next, it seems “El Terror” is looking for a fight, who will accept his offer?
Tony Ferguson Wants To Fight…….Everybody
In the last few days, The Interim UFC Lightweight Champ has taken aim at Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tyron Woodley. First he tweeted:
After that, Ferguson tweeted the following towards McGregor and company:
Regardless of who Tony fights next, it seems it will be a big name fight. “El Cucuy” is ready to unify the lightweight belts and possibly move up to 170 and make some history again. It seems like a bright year ahead for the 33 year old California native.
This year has some great potential fights lining up already, lets just hope it does not another year of injuries like 2017 was. Cheers fights fans, MMACS is back!
